Dewayne Rosenbaum 

He excelled in basketball and baseball at Mars Hill and also set a state record in shot put during his freshman season. As a sophomore, he was all-county and helped the Panthers to the state basketball tournament, while posting a 7-1 pitching record in baseball. As a junior, he made the all-county and all-region tournament teams, while averaging 16 points and 15.7 rebounds per game. for the Panthers baseball team that year, he was 11-1 as a starter with a 0.67 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched. He struck out 15 in the first game of the state championship series and hit a seventh-inning grand slam that led his team to a come-from-behind win in the final game of the series. Duiring his senior season, he made the same two all ­tournament teams and the TimesDaily All-Area team by averaging 14.8 points and 16.5 rebounds per game. He posted an 11-3 record for the baseball team, with a 0.97 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 71 innings. He pitched a shutout in the first game of the state championship series. He signed a scholarship with David Lipscomb College where he produced a 30-7 record and a 2.48 ERA in his four seasons. He was an All-American NAIA as a sophomore and junior. He was drafted by the Orioles after his senior season and ended up signing with the Angels following his senior season. He played one season for the Angels before a career-ending injury.
