Charles Toner

Toner graduated from Bessemer High School in 1960 after lettering for three years in baseball and football.  While attending Florence State College, he again lettered for three years in football and track.  He started his coaching career at Hanceville High School in 1964 and became the head coach at Hatton High School in 1967.  From 1971-1984, he coached at Lexington High School, jumped to Rogers High School from 1985-1989 and ended his coaching career in Tennessee at Loretto High School from 1989-97.  As a head coach, his niche was turning losing programs into winners and remarkably he compiled a 190-96 record at four different programs.  His teams were known for being over-achievers.  In Lauderdale County, he we coach of the year six times and chalked up the same awards three times at Loretto.  In 1995, Lawrence County, Tennessee, named him Citizen of the Year.  Retirement leaves him to hunt, fish and watch other people catch and play.
