Dennis Gooch 

He was an instrumental part of Lexington's run for state basketball championships during the mid-1960's. He played on the 1965 and 1967 Lexington teams that advanced to the state tournament in Tuscaloosa. He broke a state toumament scoring record in 1967 by scoring 77 points in three games. He averaged 21 points and was an All-State selection as a senior as the Bears finished third in the state. He also was an all-star baseball player in high school, and later played on independent teams in Lexington and Elgin. He played basket­ball and baseball for four years at St. Bernard College. He began coaching boys basketball at Sulligent in 1973, and coached I 0 sea­sons. His first three teams advanced to the state tourna­ment in Tuscaloosa. He won 201 games during the 10-year period, and was conference coach of the year three times.
