Harrison Humes

Attended Florence City Schools (Burrell-Slater) and participated in basketball, football, and track. His senior year he set new school, and conference, shot put records (49’4”). He was a starter on the football team for three years. He was best known for his outstanding play as center on the basketball team. He used his 6’ 6” height to dominate opposing teams. He averaged 20 ppg. and 10 rpg. He earned All-Conference honors three years. During a tournament in Gadsden he dominated the Gadsden center who later became a first round draft selection for the Boston Celtics. After high school he decided against playing football at Dillard University and enrolled at Alabama A&M to pursue his college degree and continue playing basketball. After being called to active duty by the U.S. Army Reserve for six months he returned to school the following year. He lettered four years. He was named All-Conference as a junior and senior. He was inducted to the Alabama A&M University Hall of Fame in 2003.
