He lettered four years in basketball, three years in football and once in track at Burrell-Slater School. He was team captain in basketball and football. He was selected All Conference three years in Basketball. In Track and Field competition, he threw the Shot Put 48'6" to win the conference championship. He also became a four year starter at AlabamaA & M in basketball, averaging 16.8 points and eight rebounds per game during his senior season. He was inducted into theAlabama A&M Hall of Fame in 1993.
