L.L. Whitten 

 

L.L. Whitten grew up in the Central community, but attended Coffee High during his senior year in 1945 to have a chance to play athletics. He played football and baseball at Coffee.  He joined the US Marines, serving in China. He made the Marines boxing team and had a 20-2 record, with 14 knockouts, His two losses were on split decisions. He was offered two boxing scholarships, but opted to play football at Florence State as the school reintroduced football following the war. He started all four seasons on offense and defense, and was team captain in 1951. He coached three seasons before entering the insurance business.  He was inducted into the UNA Hall of Fame in 1992.
