Mike Russell

A native of Florence, Al attended Chipola Junior College and transferred to Troy State University and was eventually named a coach in 1985.  Russell was on the coaching staff of two NCAA Division II National Championship teams in 1986 and 1987.  He was inducted into the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame.  This honor is given to those who exist at the foundation of player development for the Major Leagues.  Russell began his professional baseball career in the San Francisco Giants organization as an area supervisor in 1987.  He has served as area supervisor and / or scout for Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins, and the Detroit Tigers.  Currently, Russell scouts the National League East, both major and minor league teams.  During his career he signed seven Major League players.  Each team that Russell scouted for has appeared in the World Series in his time with the organization including twice with the Detroit Tigers.
