Ronnie Owens

A four sport athlete at Lauderale County High School, 1967-1969.  All area running back in 1968.  In 1968 led area total offense and multi purpose yards (2000+ yards), rushing (1275 yards), receiving (410 yards), passing (335 yards), kicking (punt returns, PAT's, and field goals).  Kicked game winning field goal to defeat Muscle Shoals 3-0.  First time a county school had ever defeated a city school.  Scored four touchdowns in win over Loretto including a 95 yard run from scrimmage, was elected team captain, and was MVP on 1968 team.  Member of the LCHS basketball team that finished third in state in 1967.  Signed a football scholarship with University Tennessee at Chattanooga.  Highlights include playing against Archie Manning at Ole Miss, Terry Bradshaw at Louisiana Tech, Pat Sullivan at Auburn, and Ralph Block at Jacksonville State.  Transferred to Troy State for Junior and Senior years.  Two year starter at at fullback.  Averaged 5.0 yards per carry and helped lead Troy to GSC Championship in 1973.  Player of the Week four times during senior year.  Winner of the Kilpatrick Award, given to the senior football player with the highest academic average, in 1973.  Began teaching and coaching career in 1974 at Rogers High School.  Coached at Central, Loretto, and Bradshaw.  Moved into administration in 1986. Ended teaching career in 2000 to pursue interests outside of education.
