Tony Willis

Tony competed in track and basketball for Mars Hill Bible School. His achievements in both sports are duly commendable. As a senior, Willis won three gold medals at the state track meet in the following events; 400 meter dash, 300 meter hurdles, and the 4x400 meter relay. He also won the bronze medal in high jump. As a senior he was ranked number one in 1A-6A decathlon the entire year, but graduated high school on the same day as the 1989 competition. In basketball Willis was recognized as an All-County, All-Area, All-Region, and All-State player. The TimesDaily named him to their All-Area team in 1988 and 1989. He had over 1,000 career points and averaged 19 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game in his senior season. He is one of only four players in MHBS history to average a double-double. He signed a full basketball scholarship with UNA. After college Wills coached at Mars Hill for twelve years and recorded over 250 wins. He was selected to coach the 2001 North team in the North-South All-Star game. He has eight area championships, two county championships, six regional tournament bids, and one state runner-up team. He coached three track state runner-up teams and one state championship team in 1999. Willis adds one cross-country state runner-up and five top five finishes to his coaching resume.
